Secretly, she quite believed that Dickon worked Magic (of course good Magic) on everything near him and that was why people liked him so much and wild creatures knew he was their friend. The blackberries and heather-bells knew Dicken. The foxes showed him where their cubs slept and the skylarks didn't hide their nests from him. Mary was just as curious about Dickon as she was about the deserted garden. Where was the door? There MUST be a door. At that moment, a robin finished singing his cheerful song, shook his wings, spread them, and flew away over the wall and into the mysterious secret garden. Mary wondered aloud in a whisper, "I must find that door!" ...
