Unlike the Impressionists, Paul Cézanne used color, not as an end in itself, but rather like line, as a tool with which to construct form and space.
Cézanne was a French Post- Impressionist painter, whose works influenced the development of many 20th-century art movements, especially Cubism and Fauvism.
Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso were greatly influenced by Cézanne.
Cézanne's technique included repeated parallel or perpendicular strokes, hatching and crosshatching, along with investigation of space and form.
