I'm not too worried about not getting likes or followers. I'm just doing this for my enjoyment & entertainment & if I happen to connect with a few cool people with similar aesthetics to mine, yet unique & different in ways to inspire each other, I'll have gotten everything I wanted from this app. Seems I'm off to a fabulous start, right here. So thanks for that!😉 Have you heard anything about this other app that Combyne has started? It's called OOTD. It's in beta testing & I'm signed up to beta test through Google Play Store, which I'm not even exactly sure how it works. So I don't know if you are able to even see it in the Play store yet. In the very short time I've been on this Combyne app here, I've noticed some things that the devs seem to have let slide by the wayside & I'm wondering if they're getting ready to launch the new app & gradually have this one fade into obscurity. They can't make us leave though! 🤣
@badholly My goodness Holly your enthusiasm is palpable, I am genuinely so excited to see what you will do. So if you have items that are already on white backgrounds the background remover function within the app is generally pretty good with those, they might be ever so slightly kind of rough around the edges but I would say it's completely sufficient. If you have something with more of like an off-white or beige or gray background or a background where the lighting is a little weird the built-in background remover probably won't have a very good time with that, but crisp white backgrounds work out well 9 times out of 10 with no problem. So don't sweat it. And of course if you do upload something and the background isn't removed properly it's no big deal then you just know to open up whatever background remover app you decide on and take it out that way. If you upload a bad item you can very easily delete it from your own collection and re-upload a better quality version of it. I suppose it was disingenuous to say that combyne is dead dead maybe just a little bit weaker than it once was, and the reason I tell that to you mostly is because I don't want you to get discouraged if it takes you a very long time to amass followers or if your outfits don't get many likes or views. It can be pretty disheartening in my experience to spend a lot of time creating something and then just not get a lot of feedback on it. I'm sure there are alternatives out there, I've seen for example digital closet apps that are supposed to help people organize their real life closets that also have an outfit creation and sharing component, but from the little I've seen I think that combyne is probably still the best app of this nature. However I've never done any serious searching for an alternative.
@john1633 this is amazing! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I went a bit crazy yesterday taking screenshots of tons of stuff to upload. I got stuck on Wolf & Badger for several hours. Oops. At least I didn't buy any of the very expensive things I fell in love with. YET. Now I just need to edit the pictures & get them uploaded. In reference to what you said about removing the background. Everything I screenshotted yesterday is just the item (dress, coat, shoes, etc.) against a white background. Do I need to edit the white background out before I upload them to Combyne? I realize that is a totally ignorant question & I have no shame asking it 🤣. I've always been such a fashion lover and have always had my own very unique style, never one to follow trends, know exactly my aesthetic and how to pull it off. So it's kinda hard to believe this is my first time to ever play around with one of these styling apps or websites. I love looking through Polyvore & saving all sorts of outfit ideas to my Pinterest boards, but I've never actually created any outfits myself. So I'm a bit in the dark on lots of things. And I appreciate the help so much! By the way, since this app isn't that active anymore, do you have an alternate you like better?
@badholly Hey there! Okay so this is weird and embarrassing but sadly Combynes chat features only works correctly like 90% of the time and sometimes it simply does not let one send a DM. (Now is one of those times so I'll just reply to you here.) Here's a little info on some for the ropes as well as some creators you might like to check out. Hopefully it helps! The unfortunate thing about groups is that many of them aren't very active, so they aren't really a good place to find community, however they're still useful places to stock up on items. I took a look at the groups you've already joined and you picked some really good ones. Two more I might recommend just for their item backlog would be a group called 1950s (which as the name suggests has 50s items but some 60s as well) and a group I really like called Aesthetic Americana, which has items more so from I'd say the 20th century as a whole but that of course includes 60s items. (To be honest with you sometimes I'll join a group pillage all the items that I like and then leave the group because as I said, most aren't very active) Another way to search for items is through hashtags, if you click the magnifying glass next to the bell in the top right hand corner of the home screen you can search for groups, creators, or individual hashtags. A hashtag search will of course give you everything that's been posted under that hashtag but a little tip is to search #______item, instead of just #______ (so for example #vintageitem versus just #vintage) that will sometimes (but sadly not very often) give you better results. When you click on someone's outfit the app will show you every item they used in that outfit and your able to save as many as you'd like in your own collections and even organized them in folders, which really comes in handy. However in my opinion the best way by far to get items is just to import them yourself. When making an outfit tap the tshirt icon that says "items" in the upper right hand corner and then go to upload (which will also be in the right hand corner), in the bottom center of your screen you'll see an orange plus button, that allows you to take any item from your phone's camera roll and upload it on to Combyne. The app will try to automatically remove the background so you're left with a PNG, and it's not very good at this, so I would recommend using a website to remove the background of the item before you upload it (I use a site called remove.bg and I highly recommend it) it will also give you the option to hand crop from the combyne app but that leaves a hideous white outline around the item that I would not recommend. My go-to spot for images is Pinterest but you can also use Google search or even the product photos on Amazon. In my opinion it's the fastest and most effective way to get the items you're looking for. So a little back story for you about Combyne, about 2 years ago the entire app was completely free and it was a really busy and vibrant sort of community, however slowly more and more features have been getting locked behind paywalls and sadly slowly more and more veteran creators have taken long hiatuses or left the app entirely. So some of my favorite creators post very seldom or not at all anymore. Even I myself will find that weeks or even months go by where I don't really feel like posting anything and then I'll have phases where I post a lot in a short amount of time, and there are lots of creators who do something similar to that. I think the best way to find people to follow is once again through using the hashtag search. Search a hashtag that you're interested in and then just scroll through the outfits that have been tagged within, if an outfit catches your eye hop over the Creator's profile and see if they look like someone you want to follow. (This works especially well for more obscure hashtags or ones that don't get as much traffic as more generic things like #aesthetic do) Now, I don't mean to be mean to the youth, but, you'll come to realize that there are a lot of actual children on this app and their posts are well...you know the quality you'd expect. The nice thing is the kids tend to follow each other and the older teens and adults on here also tend to follow each other, so I f you find a creator you really like you can visit their profile and hit the three little dots in the upper right hand corner and then select "following" to see a list of everyone they follow and then you can explore new creators from there. I'll list a couple creators that I really like, either because I like what they make or I just like them as people however like I said a lot of these guys aren't very active anymore. But if anything hopefully they can be a jumping off point for you to find more people that you like or at the very least you can go pillage their items :) Here are some creators I like (and just imagine an @ sign before each of these) Ethicalsorceress Jprgirl Brittxny Alwaysstylish Tulipano_tulips Themichal Combyneunoffical _desiree_ee_ Sweetheartxo Je.suis.rylie Oceanicfellings Jessicadanielle Puff461 Nirvanas Madibee_ Psycobeam Laura_mc Lillian84 Sundancer16 Kc_ree Longflight Goodbyekelly Ruisgreat Kittykookay Kallan I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions or anything else I can help you with.
