This outfit was inspired by my great-great Grandmother, Amelia. Amelia was born in the hills of Switzerland. In the Swiss-Italian part of the country. I don’t know much about her upbringing, other than the fact that she had 8+ siblings. She left Switzerland, aged 19. After she married my great-great Grandfather, Giuseppe. They traveled down to Portugal and through Ellis Island before making their home in the Imperial Valley in California. Giuseppe died young, leaving her to raise and support a house of at least 6 children. On a washerwoman’s salary. From what I can imagine, she was a tough, smart and knew her way through the troubles of achieving the often ill-fated American Dream.
